How Do I Become a Member?
As an SDSU student, you can become a member of NSSLHA! First, review membership, point, and dues requirements. Then, complete the NSSLHA 2026-2027 Membership Form! Once submitted, we can add you to our email list for important chapter communications. Then, choose your desired membership route and mark your calendar for our next meeting!
Throughout the year, earn membership points by getting involved in volunteering, participating in events, or attending meetings. Although our chapter tracks the points you earn, it is your responsibility to understand your route’s requirements, decide how you will earn your points, and ensure that you earn the necessary number of points. Certificates and senior graduation cords are awarded only to members who complete the requirements for eligible membership routes.
Membership Routes
We offer multiple membership routes to accommodate different levels of involvement. Even if you have work, school, or other scheduling conflicts, there are flexible ways to earn points and achieve membership! Review the information below to learn more about each route and determine which option best fits your schedule and goals.
1. GENERAL NSSLHA MEMBERSHIP
Requirements:
-Complete the NSSLHA 2026-2027 Membership Form! to be included included in our email list and receive important information about meetings and events.
-$25 SDSU Dues must be paid by: October 1st, 2026
2. SDSU DISTINGUISHED MEMBER
General Requirements:
-Complete the NSSLHA 2026-2027 Membership Form! to be included included in our email list and receive important information about meetings and events.
-$25 SDSU Dues must be paid by: October 1st, 2026
Membership Point Requirements:
**To earn Distinguished Membership, point requirements must be met in addition to the general requirements labeled above**
-50 points earned for the WHOLE YEAR
(Recommended: 25pts. per semester)
-JEDI Workshop (1 per year)
-6 Chapter Meetings per year
(Recommend 3 per semester)
- 2 Service Events per year
(Recommend 1 per semester)
-2 Social Events per year
(Recommend 1 per semester)
3. NATIONAL NSSLHA MEMBERSHIP
(Can be combined with Distinguished NSSLHA Membership)
General Requirements:
-Complete the NSSLHA 2026-2027 Membership Form! to be included included in our email list and receive important information about meetings and events.
-$25 SDSU Dues must be paid by: October 1st, 2026
-$60 National NSSLHA Dues must be paid by: February 14th, 2027
Membership Point Requirements:
**To earn National AND Distinguished Membership, point requirements must be met in addition to the general requirements labeled above**
-30 points earned for the WHOLE YEAR
(Recommended: 15pts. per semester)
-JEDI Workshop (1 per year)
-2 Chapter Meetings per year
(Recommend 1 per semester)
- 2 Service Events per year
(Recommend 1 per semester)
-2 Social Events per year
(Recommend 1 per semester)
Benefits of Becoming a National Member:
-
Discounts on ASHA registration conventions, products, etc. Subscriptions and services (ASHA journals).

Members have online access to ASHA journals like American Journal of Audiology, American Journal of Speech Language Pathology; Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, and Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools. The ASHA journals are available on the ASHA website exclusively.

If you part of National NSSLHA 2 years and continue to be in it for the last two years of your master’s or doctoral program, you are eligible for $225 off the initial dues and fees of ASHA membership and certification through the NSSLHA to ASHA Conversion Discount.
